Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I’m comparing my preliminary project to my music magazine. I have progressed with my layout and made it more professional than my preliminary and I’ve made it fill more of the page to have more for the audience to consume. I have made it how a music magazine produced now would look like, with the right features and content. With my contents page for my school magazine you can see that I haven’t included much on my page whereas in my music contents page I have included a editors letter, pictures and more information, which follows the codes and conventions of a music magazine. For both magazines we had to do research however my research for my music magazine was more informative and there was more to research for as I had to study the journalism. For my questionnaires I asked 30 people and with detailed more precise and relevant answers. I also researched similar media texts and other music interviews to find what others are like so I can take tips and ideas.
For my music magazine I planned my final product in better detail than my preliminary. I organised my photo shoot, planning my models, hair, pose, clothing, positioning and also I gacve myself lots of timing space for my photos to be edited and re done if they happened to go wrong.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Emap provides a range of different sectors within in the business. They are well known and successful. I would fit into the institution because there was already a similar magazine, ‘smash hits’  and they are already well established.
My genre of pop would suit this company as they have first hand experience in publishing pop magazines because of Smash hits.
I have chosen Emap as they are more suitable for my target audience as they provided a magazine similar to mine so would understand my product

Who would be the audience for your media product?

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challange forms and conventions of real media products?

How did you attract/address your audience?

In other sell lines I have used other music related topics like a music quiz to find out what singer you are most like. This will attract my audience as it’s something interesting to do and look forward to finding when they read on in my magazine and it might be someone they might idolise or like.
I have used eras bold as my font as this is simplistic and easy to read but also curved and round letters. I chose this font because it’s like bubble writing which is usually associated with pop music as they usually use it for titles and headings.
I wanted my page to look busy by using different font colours and sizes which will draw in my audience as they will be attracted to bright vibrant colours.
In my editors letter i have also used linguistic techniques such as a rhyme ‘fab and not drab’ this is catchy and memorable and will stand out to the readers
I have included my readers as much as i can by using words such as ‘You’ this is more relevant to them as they feel included.

How did your media product represent particular social groups?

On the front cover I have represented my target audience by linking my reader profiles likes. I have included top 5 five hairstyles celebs are wearing now, which links with their liking of making their hair trendy and nice. Also I have included top 10 songs in the charts with relates with their likes of new music. Also with the like of pop music I have used a pop duo to represent my social group.
The atrists I have used a new and popular as they have come number 1 in the charts which I write in my double page spread. By having a upbeat, fresh girl group it represents my audiences likes and interests in music as they prefer new songs that are successful, cool and trendy. In my double page spread I establish their relationship to their fans and show its very strong as they are very popular with them and appear to be admired by their fans and they admire their fans back. This is what a typical young teenagers like, a girl group to look up to and possibly copy their style and fashion because of their successful music.

Double page spread final

This is my double page spread, focusing on my artists.
Again i have used the same colour scheme adding more bright colours as from my questionnaire research my audience said the like bright and fun which i have tried to convey using different fonts, images and colours. I have a main image which shows the main focus of the content and then a few smaller images surrounding the page. I have used my question research here and used similar sorts of questions to make it interesting for my audience

Front cover final

This is my final Front cover for my music magazine, with the target audience of 12-13 girls i think it's appropriate because of the colourschemes and images used. I have kept it relatively like my pencil drafts and kept the colour schemes i said i would used and also made it similar to the other media texts i researched.

Photo 2

Here is another picture i have edited. This goes on the front cover of my magazine and has a small border around it with text.
As you can see my original picture is quite dark and boring. By me using Picasa again i have edited it to make it brighter and a lighter feel.

Here is my finished version of my picture edit

Photo 1

Here is an image i took of one of my models for a smaller image on my double page spread
This is the original image

This is my new image that'll go on my double page spread, i have made it black and white and edited the contrast and brightness to make it more eye catching and stand out more.
I did this on a picture editing program called picasa 3

Questions for Double page spread

I have done some research of some music interviews so i can get a good idea of what questions i will need to ask for my artists.
This is an article about Olly Murs and his new single release, the questions are quite light hearted and not too serious but they also provide lots of information about his music and him as an artist.

Using this i have decided to use questions such as:
-When is the album released?
- So your single is number 1 in the chart at the moment, how do you feel about that?
-  The reaction to your new single “Party till Dawn” has been very successful, did you ever think it would be this victorious

These are the sorts of questions that my readers would be interested in and would like to read more of

Similar media texts

As my magazine is aimed for the young teens target audience and is a pop magazine there are already a few on the market similar to mine but not just music, such as Sugar, Shout, Mizz, etc. i have tried to keep the style of my  magazine similar to theirs by using the same colour schemes and layout.

Here they have used lots of text around the edge with one main image of a girl smiling and looking at the camera. also they have included a black bubble with text just like the magazine below and that is a feature i have also used.

i have used the same colour scheme as this magazine which are the purples, pinks and yellows. They really target my audience ad they are usually the colours that would attract them to a magazine.
Also i have a similar image of a boy we a heart sign on my magazine this is also something that would attract my target audience

Pencil Drafts

Here are my 3 rough pencil drafts of what my media product will look like

This is my front page pencil draft
I have used my questionnaire feedback to help chose my colour scheme. Here i have shown the colour of my mast head and other sections of my page and i'm keeping the yellow, pink and purple as my main 3 colours.
I have a rough outline of my group image.
Also a banner going across the page and sell lines around the page with other images.

This is my double page spread pencil draft
Here i am focusing on my group that will be on my front cover. This will be a light hearted fun interview with pictures and keeping the colour scheme.

This is my pencil draft for my contents page.
It'll have images and sections of the magazine with page numbers like a normal contents page also it will have an editors letter.

Audience

Here is a mood board i have created showing a collection of images that my targetted audience would like/desire. Images included such as Justin Bieber and the X factor are the type of style of music they'd be interesting in listening to/ hearing about. So in my magazine i have tried to keep these sorts of interests consistent to make it more relevant for the reader.
I have wrote about what my typical reader would be like
For my music magazine i have created a reader profile to roughly identify who my target audience is. As i have chosen a girly pop magazine aimed at the younger audience this is what my typical reader will be like

Action Plan

This is my action plan i have devised which will help me create my final product of my magazine.
As it is hand written i have taken a photo of it.

In this i have included:

Questionnaire feedback

Audience questionnaire feedback for my music magazine.
I asked my target audience which are 11-15 year old girls interested in pop music and the world of pop and this is the feedback they gave me for a few of my most important questions.
I asked 30 people

1)      What image would you like to see on your front cover?
For this one it's clear that female and group were my most popular choices of images to have on my front cover, so i have decided to combine these and use a girl pop group

Chose 3 colours which could be used as a house style
Pink was my most popular choice and then followed purple and yellow. These 3 colours are exactly what my target audience would like to see so i am using these as they go well and are very girly.

here i have two obvious winners but they are very close so i am combining the two as this is what my audience would like from my magazine
